The Bittersweet Lane Pool House includes a pass-through window from the kitchenette to an outdoor bar, a masonry terrace with a firepit and an outdoor kitchen. Inside has a prep & dine island, full guest suite, laundry, living room and a rec room loft with vaulted ceilings. The design and finishes mirror those of the HOBI award-winning main residence.
The Raymond Street home has won several awards, including the 2021 HOBI award for “Best Modern Home”. The structure is cantilevered over a steep riverine and offers roof-deck views of Long Island Sound. This was one of Darien’s most challenging projects in terms of the design, regulatory approvals and construction. The design vernacular is a fusion of Manhattan Loft meets New England Coastal.
Situated on a unique coastal lot, Pasture Lane was designed as a getaway home that could accommodate and entertain a large extended family, whether it be for hot summer days or cold winter nights. The deep porches, poolside courtyard and underground pool mechanicals were designed to capitalize on the water views.
Lantern Ridge Road was a dated 1982 “builder’s special” that needed to be updated and expanded with an open floor plan for a young family. The small side entry was reimagined as grand front entry with a flagstone porch. The pull-down attic was converted into a third floor that features a full guest suite and home office. Windows and skylights were added to enhance the natural light throughout the home.
The interior of this magnificent home is bright and airy with high-end millwork, 10-foot ceilings and grand windows. Key design features include the three-story atrium, a window-wall main staircase, a his-and-her master bath with a walk-through shower, an outdoor kitchen with al fresco dining and a flagstone patio with a firepit.
Miles Road was a total remodel of a split-level 1948 cape. In addition to creating a fresh aesthetic with a gorgeous open floor plan, Hatley Homes Design added 1000 sq ft of living space within the existing footprint. The new look borrows from the popular Modern Farmhouse.
This 6700 sq ft, 6 bath, 6 bedroom was designed to appeal to a sophisticated buyer seeking the latest design trends and amenities. To that end, it offers a 4-car garage, a 3-story front foyer, a flagstone front porch, a large rear patio with an outdoor kitchen, a walkout basement, vaulted ceilings, high-end appliances, fixtures and finishes.
The original home was designed in 1929 as a Corning family summer retreat. When a new owner purchased the home, it was in a state of disrepair with an internal layout that was outdated and dysfunctional. The new owner elected to demo the bad and salvage the good. The remaining portions were completely gutted and remodeled. The dilapidated areas were removed and new additions were added that had to circumvent the wetland and zoning challenges. The end result is a wonderful fusion of new and old.
This Darien builder's home dated back to the 1800's. It had been turned into a duplex and had become a town eyesore. The home was fraught with construction, code and zoning challenges. We gutted the structure and abandoned the Italianate style for a Dutch gambrel look. The gambrel style enabled an open floor plan that worked within the narrow confines of the existing footprint. Today, it has a magnificent open floor plan and abundant living space on three levels.
Hillside Drive was among the first of our many Darien projects. It was a 93 foot-long ranch that had no curb appeal, no focal point entry, few windows and a very small and dated kitchen. The home is situated on a corner lot with very restrictive setbacks that required clever design and hard-fought variances. The end result, with a kitchen fit for a master chef, is a delight for both family and guests.
This is one of the first of many homes that we designed along Middlesex Road. It is representative of our preference for the Shingle-Style Nantucket Colonial with its hierarchy of steep gabled roofs, columned flagstone wrap-around porches and grand widow-walled staircases. It has magnificent living areas on four floors. The interior is a sophisticated mix of transitional and classic craftsman detailing.
We affectionately refer to the three homes in a row on Maple Street as “The Three Sisters”. The three lots and the building footprints are almost identical, yet each home has it’s own personality with different finishes and floor layouts. The home designs enabled a large amount of living space within a relatively small footprint.
The Edgewood project replaced a dilapidated ranch that was on a very small non-conforming lot. To win Zoning approval, the new design had to fit within a twenty-foot-wide footprint. Although the home is small on the outside, this 4-bedroom, 3-bath home is packed with features and feels bright and airy on the inside.
This Rings End Road home is a raised ranch with stunning views of Gorham’s Pond and the Rings End Bridge. Our clients used the original deck every day, but wanted to replace it with a low maintenance deck that would elevate the home’s look and feel. The new deck design enables year-round living and dining on two stories. The design includes an upgraded staircase, hidden roof drains, a crank-out awning for sun and rain protection, in-deck skylights to channel natural light to the floor below and cable railings for an uninterrupted views of the pool and beyond.
